Well today started out pretty gray. It rained last night and we were looking at it possibly storming today. So we started the day regular by just doing chores. Corey went back to the chiropractor today so he wasn't in. I did the cattle chores again. Fed the cows the distillers then checked for calves in all the barns and the field.
Checking for calves again.
Buddy got tired of running beside me so he hopped on the gator too.
Then I went to feed the bulls again. They're about a 2 miles west of the main farm.
The 5 bulls eating away.
Caleb's house that they're fixing up.
The calves in the barn love to get in the feed bunk and just chill.
Checked the commercial cows and the one was bout to bust.
I then went out with Caleb and Chris to plant some grass seed. It was starting to rain when we got to the terrace out by the bulls so we booked it through there. Ended up running out of seed but it was just in time for it to pour. This was just in time. We just finished the planting yesterday so it was perfect.
Grass seed.
Just Pourin Rain.
Well we decided to get some chores done inside.
Chris welding the arm back on the sprayer for the chicken barns.
While we were working on some stuff you could hear the noise on the roof get louder and sharper. Evidently we got some hail.
Its hard to see but those little white things are hail.
Mike purchased a truck not to long ago and it was from a company that had stickers on the two doors. It has been bugging Mike for a bit now. Connie has tried a number of times to get the residue off but we haven't had much success. So she purchased some new goo gone and I worked on it
The door before
The door after: all pretty and clean!
We get chickens in on Monday so we went to go get the chicken barns ready. There is a bit involved in this. First we opened the doors and Chris came through with the tractor and evened all the ground out.
Chris is in the top right of the picture evening it all out.
We got a sweet little surprise today. Amanda (Chris's wife) came past today to drop off a magazine and brought the kids along. Always fun seeing them. They are something sweet I'll tell ya.
Stran: this is probably one of the only times you'll see him NOT smiling. He is a very happy boy.
Hazer is there on the left and Cassidy is on the right.
Mom bought them chalk in town today and they were anxious to get at it.
Another surprise of the day... We went over to the second chicken barn to clean out the office and we stepped inside the main part and found a small river flowing. One of the water lines had been broken and flowing water right into the center of the barn. It may be slightly hard to see but all the stuff shinning is water. We couldn't move anything because it had rained so the soil was all soaked and its super muddy.
West Chicken barn all soaked.
Next Caleb and I worked on getting the chicken barn offices cleaned and disinfected. I swept first then Caleb sprayed down the walls with water then I sprayed the walls and doors with 409. He rinsed the walls again while I swept water towards the drain. He then had to go into the barns which had just been fogged with disinfectant and do the other side of the doors. Lets just say Caleb is still alive and breathing but the stuff in the barn is real bad for ya so lets just hope he's ok in the morning. It is real strong but he's fine. Don't worry... Although he did have a funny taste in his moth there for a while. But he'll be fine.
My little swept pile from the office.
We were eating some lunch when Adam (Mike and Connie's oldest son) called and told him to check out Tim Hawkins video: Government can. We then sat there for probably around 45 minutes and laughed our heads off while we went from video to video.
Because of the big storm I went out again to check for calves. There were no calves in the field but this is definitely one of my favorite pairs. My favorite is one like it except he's got white socks also.
Percentage cow calf pair.
There were two calves in the barn. Both Angus calves. One was from the cow above that was about to pop. After the calves are born they are vaccinated tagged and weighed.
Caleb and Chris giving the shot and tagging him.
So we ended the night pretty early around 3:45 or so. We then went in to get ready for church when the clouds started to darken and move in closer. We started watching the doppler a bit closer and the radio a bit louder. Then we heard twin tornados were forming and were ripping apart things in town. We all headed for the basement and got comfortable. Long story short, the tornado went past us and we were just fine. Town got hit a bit and there are are a few buildings hurt but seems seems like everyone is ok which is great. God protects.
The view out back after the first half past.
Hail came again just a little bit ago.
